I'm running Boston for Reid.

Monday, April 19, 2027. 26.2 miles for my son, on Team MayeDay.

MEET REID

Reid plays defense for Yale Bantam AA.

In July, Reid was diagnosed with Burkitt leukemia. Months of stomach aches ended in emergency surgery on July 21, and the tissue removed that day gave us the diagnosis. Burkitt is rare and aggressive, and it is also one of the most treatable cancers there is.

Reid is 13. He is an athlete, a brother, a friend, a teammate and a classmate. He is also my only son. Hockey is the sport he loves most, and golf is a close second. Treatment has put both on hold, and his care team has told him he will get back to both.

HIS TREATMENT

Treatment is a marathon.

Reid's treatment is chemotherapy over 6 to 8 months, and he has spent most of the time since July at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital. The chemo itself is the hard part. It has to be strong enough to beat an aggressive cancer, and Reid feels every round of it.

Getting him through it takes his pediatric oncology team, more than 50 people so far: oncologists, surgeons, nurses and pharmacists; specialists in infectious disease, radiology, pathology and transfusion medicine; and nutritionists, social workers, psychologists and child life specialists. Every one of them has a part in getting him to the finish.

GAME DAY

We're Patriots and Bruins people.

We've got the photos at Foxboro and the Garden to prove it.

Reid follows football closely, the Patriots above all. MayeDay is Drake Maye's family foundation, which makes this the right team to run for.

When they offered me a spot on their Boston team, I said yes on the phone.

OUR FAMILY

Cancer happens to the whole family.

Our family is now on the receiving end of the organizations that support patients like Reid and the people who care for them. We have seen firsthand what they mean to Reid and to us.

That is why I am running the 2027 Boston Marathon for the MayeDay Family Foundation.

HOW CAN I HELP?

A lot of you have asked how you can help.

This is how I would ask you to do it. Every gift goes directly to the MayeDay Family Foundation through my GivenGain page, and my goal is $15,000. I don't collect anything myself.

THE BIB

The bib is still on the board.

In 2024 I had a Boston bib. My knee went 5 weeks out, and I didn't start.

It's been on the board in my office since, next to my other race bibs and notes from my family.

I build houses in Old Lyme and run before work. I've run Hartford and New York, 2 Ironman 70.3s and the VT100 50K.

This April I get another shot, and this time I'm running for Reid.

SPONSOR A MILE

The course is 26.2 miles. Pick one.

Tell me who it's for, and I'll run that mile thinking about them on April 19.

Reid wears 73, so miles 7 and 3 are his. His teammates and their families can take a mile for the team.

When you give, put the mile and who it's for in the message to me on the gift form.

WHERE YOUR GIFT GOES

MayeDay Family Foundation

Founded by Drake and Ann Michael Maye, MayeDay supports children and families facing hardship. It's an official charity of the 2027 Boston Marathon.

Their work includes pediatric care at Boston Children's Hospital, with a Child Life Therapist on the oncology floor, access to youth sports and equipment, and food for families in need.

For a check or an employer match, ask me and I'll get you the details.

Reid is running his own marathon. Mine is 26.2 miles. His is harder.

Thank you.
